10 June 2026
Caritas Archdiocese of Juba successfully concluded a two-day youth training held from 9th to 10th June 2026, bringing together young people for learning, reflection, sharing, and inspiration. The training focused on strengthening the role of youth in promoting peace, responsibility, protection, leadership, and positive change within their communities.
The two-day engagement created a safe and meaningful space where young people were able to learn, ask questions, share experiences, and reflect on the challenges and opportunities they face in their daily lives. Through different sessions, participants were encouraged to become active voices of peace, service, discipline, and responsible leadership.
The training covered important topics including peace building, leadership, teamwork, communication skills, protection and safeguarding, mental health, self-care, civic education, and active citizenship. These sessions helped the youth to better understand their role in building peaceful communities, protecting the dignity of others, and contributing positively to society.
Throughout the training, participants were reminded that young people are not only the future of the Church and society, but also important actors in the present. Their energy, creativity, ideas, and commitment are needed in promoting unity, reconciliation, and hope among communities.
On the closing day, Bishop Santo Laku Pio, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, addressed the youth and encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to building a better future for themselves and their communities. His message reminded the participants that true leadership begins with responsibility, good character, and the willingness to serve others.
The Executive Director of Caritas Archdiocese of Juba, Mr. Placido Popo, also encouraged the youth to make good use of the knowledge gained during the training. He called on them to become agents of peace, service, and positive transformation in their families, schools, churches, and communities.
The closing session also included words of encouragement and guidance from Mr. James Alau, Head of Programs at Caritas Archdiocese of Juba, and Mr. James Lado, Project Officer at Caritas Juba. They reminded the youth that their participation, commitment, and willingness to learn are important steps toward building stronger and more peaceful communities.
Caritas Juba expresses its sincere appreciation to Sr. Karina for facilitating the session on Protection and Safeguarding, and to Mr. Michael Ongiara, staff member at Caritas Juba, for his valuable support throughout the training. Appreciation also goes to all facilitators, volunteers, partners, and staff who contributed to the success of the two-day training.
The participation of the youth throughout the training showed their readiness to learn, grow, and take part in community development. Their active involvement in discussions and group activities reflected their desire to become responsible young leaders who can contribute to peace, dignity, and positive change.
Caritas Archdiocese of Juba remains committed to empowering young people across the Archdiocese through formation, awareness, protection, peace building, and community-based support. By investing in youth, Caritas continues to support the growth of future leaders who are rooted in service, compassion, responsibility, and respect for human dignity.
The successful conclusion of this youth training is a reminder that when young people are guided, supported, and given space to participate, they can become strong voices of peace and hope within their communities.
